21.12.2012 – Joy!

I can’t help it, I’m bursting with joy!

This morning, on a bus going from Great Portland street to Camden veg market, I noticed someone had left a little gift-like bag. I took it to the driver, and asked if I should try and catch the owner. He said, “I think it’s that gentleman over there. I’ll call out to him.” We got stuck in traffic, the man in question was nowhere to be seen, and I thought all was lost,  but at the lights, the driver stopped the bus, asked if we’d mind waiting a few minutes, and ran across the junction, and down the road, before disappearing into a bank. He came out without the parcel. Job done.

On my way to the bus-stop, I’d stopped off at my local sandwich shop to say Happy Christmas to the couple who run it – two of the hardest-working people I know. Unusually, they are taking two weeks off. Apparently, one of their customers has lent them his house in Portugal so that they can have a holiday. They were so excited. And Rob had got to the first bit about him in my book, The Failure of Success, and was thrilled.

On the way back, I saw through the bus window two young women meeting by accident in the street, and watched their body language: jaws dropping. “Well, fancy seeing you!”, before they embraced.

Love and joy. If this is the end of the world, bring it on!
